Don’t get us wrong.
We’re not giving our programme away as a cheap download. We only want to bring people on board that we can see
will make this programme work for them. We want to help people get on the professional dog grooming ladder and
we’re passionate about helping new businesses succeed.
To do this, we’ve packaged all the good bits from a franchise model into a comprehensive programme that will
give any £10k+ franchise a good run for its money.
What’s more, we reveal the things that franchises won’t let you do. Why? Because it means they will lose
control of your business and ultimately not make as much money out of you.
Franchises will have people believe that the franchise package they sell them will effectively be their own
business. However, as we discuss in our article on franchise
Opportunities, the reality is that people are still really working for the master franchisor, no
matter how they try and sell it.
Perform well, pay more commission.
Underperform and they will take the business away.
That’s not how owning your own business should work, is it?
The best alternative to a dog grooming franchise
We provide people with an alternative to an expensive franchise. We appeal to people that don’t want to spend a
fortune setting up their own business, but realise they need more than just free tips from the internet.
We’re looking for people that have done, or are soon planning to undertake, dog grooming courses. People who
realise that to succeed in the commercial dog grooming world they need more than just the basics that these
courses offer.
Starting out in any new business will be a challenge and at times feel almost lonely. Our programme and support
remove the daunting feeling that ‘going it alone’ can bring.
Things like isolation, questioning your own ability and the general feeling of being overwhelmed. We guide you
through starting your own business without imposing any of the constraints that franchises do. And without
demanding additional commission payments as franchises do once you start trading.
What’s more, franchises will require commission for as long as you own that franchise. Our programme is
simply a one-off fee, and you control the business from day one.
Not only do we guide you on the things that you will need to do to succeed, but we’ll also guide you through the
things that you don’t really need to do along the way. We share alternative methodologies and business
practices that have your best interest at heart, and not those of any master franchisor.
In addition, we don’t just cover business processes, but share real life grooming experiences and
techniques they simply don’t teach you at college or in a franchise classroom.
So why use our programme?
Here’s a quote from Theo Paphitis of Dragon’s Den fame mentioned on other articles on our website:
There are a number of reasons why entrepreneurs see their fledgling businesses falter.
"They haven't done the research, they don't know where to go for the right funding ... it's rarely one thing."
However, there is a common theme, argues the retail magnate. "The reason people fail is because they don't
do their homework." You wouldn't sit an exam without doing any preparation, he points out. "A business is
no different. It's about knowing more than the next guy or girl and performing better, and the only way you
can do that is through knowledge. It's basic stuff but we don't do it."
We’ve highlighted in bold one of the things that lays at the heart of why a lot of new businesses fail very
early on.
Lisa’s determination combined with Jason’s business experience helped Blossoms Pet Care through the early days.
Over eight years on now (time of writing Jan 2019), we have been bottling up everything that’s been learnt and
are passing it on to others who are about to make the same journey.
This is not hypothetical research and theoretical ideas, but information based on experience – approaching a
decade of it. It’s exactly the same information you pay for when buying a dog grooming franchise.
With our programme, we have done Theo’s ‘homework’ for you. We have mapped out all the things that
you really need to do, those that you could do if you want to, and those things that you really don’t need to
do.
Run your own business, not someone else’s
We have proven that there is a way that you can build a business of your own that has many of the benefits that
buying a traditional franchise would bring, but without all of the negatives such as lack of individual control
and the huge up front and ongoing costs.
What’s more, there is no one breathing over your shoulder to make sure you do everything exactly as you are
told. And then reprimanding you if you want to try and put your own personal stamp on things.
For us, it’s about people taking ownership of our concept and information and making it their own. We cover
marketing, interpersonal skills and business processes in great detail.
Why? Well, you could be offering the world’s best dog grooming services, but if there is no one
coming through your door, then what’s the point?
It’s all about bums on seats and building loyal customers that will help sell your services –
especially in the early days.
Making the business work your way
We give you so many avenues that will help you advertise and promote your business that it would most likely be
impossible to do all of them. These are not just ‘marketing tips’ that some franchises offer.
You have the option to try things that you are comfortable with and find out what best works for you in your
area. You simply don’t get this flexibility with many franchises. It’s their way, or the highway.
For example, if you have a partner and/or kids who are good with computers, you could really exploit the web and
social media. If on the other hand you belong to lots of animal related organisations, or have a lot of friends
with dogs, simple word of mouth and printed flyers may work better for you.
There really are no hard and fast rules. What works well in a city suburban location may not
work well in a small Cotswolds market town, but we give you the tools to cater for any situation.
Dogs will always need grooming and walking
Dog’s hair, just like human’s, will always grow. In addition, dogs will always need walking and other pets will
always need looking after. Come rain or shine. Recession or prosperity. There is a constant demand for dog
grooming services.
All you need to do is tap in to it using the right techniques, get the right customers on board,
then do a brilliant job so they keep coming back for more (and tell all their friends about too). We have
proven techniques that will get you up and running in the short term as well as stand you above your
competitors in the long term.
If I can, anyone can!
Credit where credit is due, Lisa is bloody good at what she does. Really bloody good.
Blossoms Pet Care has all grown and developed with experience and we firmly believe that other people too can
reach this level.
‘If I can do this, anyone can.’
(Lisa Beckley – says it all the time!)
Lisa sees some customers booking their appointments in for up to a year at a time to ensure they get their slot
(this accounts for 40%+ of her bookings). She has referrals from many of her customers and still sees a healthy
flow of new enquiries from all over the place.
Lisa always has a waiting list of people just in case someone cancels at the last minute. She even works
occasional Saturday mornings, albeit mainly to squeeze people in she already knows or as a last-minute favour.
It’s painful to say, but Lisa now turns down and refers many new enquiries that she is unable to fit in, to
other dog groomers in our area.
She’s simply that busy.
She is forced now to offer appointments two to three months away as her diary is so full. She even
has people go elsewhere for their immediate groom, and then come back a few months later to her.
So, what’s the secret to making it all work?
There is no magic involved here.
There will be the usual pieces of advice such as putting in hard work, having staying power, doing your
homework, etc. But we’d suggest though (based on the Blossoms experience) that not being afraid of the
unknown is essential, and that if a helping hand is there, reach out and hold it tight.
Whilst you can ensure that those around you are helpful and supportive, sometimes having someone to hand who has
‘been there, done that’ can be a life saver. And a sanity saver. Our programme offers you exactly that.
There’s one piece of advice from a martial arts guy who MA Design deal with that has an interesting approach to
running a successful business. He’s very content in his work (he runs martial arts clubs as well as a martial
arts equipment supply business) and he said for him it was simple:
‘Make your job your hobby’.
If you really enjoy what you are doing, then work doesn’t feel like work. That on its own is
surely worth the effort, isn’t it?
